Negotiated three 425 agreements
with Delta Township and GM
Brings
three auto suppliers to the region. This equates to
investments of over $85 million with over 1,000 new
jobs created.
• Negotiated
intergovernment agreements to establish SmartZones
East
Lansing, Ingham County and Michigan State University
partnerships help establish SmartZones in the region
to support new and expanded hi-technology businesses.
• Completed
new construction negotiations with the Boji Group
Leads
to the building of the Capital View Complex and Parking
Ramp on Allegan.
• Helped
bring State workers to Downtown Lansing
Worked
with the State of Michigan to bring 625 Department of
Community Health jobs back downtown and to continue
the relocation of state workers in the downtown area.

Working to develop existing downtown
area properties
Working
with the State of Michigan to develop the Ottawa Street
Power Station and bring both state workers and retail
businesses to the site. Also continuing plans for Riverfront
development.
• Using
Environmental-friendly strategies to spur development
Used
Brownfield Development Credits to build or expand 20
businesses for a total investment of about $40 million
thus far.
NEIGHBORHOODS,
HOUSING, and COMMUNITY
•
Presiding over a housing boom
in Lansing
In
the past three years, 800 housing units have been built
and certified for occupancy. Another 500 are in the
works. Over 5,400 residential building permits have
been issued for a residential investment of over $62
million, demonstrating citizen confidence in Lansing
neighborhoods.
• Reducing
Red-Tagged Homes
Initiated
a new court order compliance strategy to reduce the
number of red-tagged homes in Lansing. Fifty
of the oldest red-tagged houses are now in the process.
• Received
the prestigious "Cool Cities" designation
and state grant
Received
the prestigious "Cool Cities" designation
and the $100,000 grant from the state for the Hunter
Park-Eastside Neighborhood Association Park and Neighborhood
Development Project.
• Helping
revive Lansing-area Business Districts
Over
40 new businesses have opened in neighborhood commercial
areas. This includes downtown, Old Town, REO Town, and
East Michigan Avenue.
• Sustained
Police and Fire Departments' staffing levels
Kept
the same manpower levels in Police and Fire Departments
that the city has had during the last 10 years.
•
Developed a 3-year Plan to enhance
municipal efficiency
Administrative
and Regional Initiatives developed a 3-year plan for
budget stabilization and city service restructuring
that will maintain quality city services with reduced
resources.
• Continually
studying cost-cutting measures
Initiated
the Lansing-East Lansing-Ingham County study on the
consolidation of the 911 Centers.
Proposed
new and expanded regional fire service cooperation and
consolidation.
Initiated discussions with Lansing Community College
and Lansing School District officials to explore the
coordination and consolidation of computer systems.
Issued
the Living Wage executive order to assure that employees
of certain city vendors would receive a living wage.
• Established
the Mayor's Initiative on Race and Diversity
Brought
hundreds of Lansing residents together to work on equality
and justice in housing, health care, education and employment.
It has also sponsored two major youth conferences on
race and diversity.
• Worked
with the successful Parks Millage Campaign
Preserves
and improves Lansing city parks.
