MAYOR GRATEFUL FOR SUPPORTERS' EFFORTS
After a hard-fought campaign that saw a revitalization of community efforts and collaborations, Lansing Mayor Tony Benavides conceded the election to his two-time opponent on Wednesday.
However, the Mayor was quick to acknowledge the valiant efforts of not only his friends, extensive family, and longtime supporters, but to the host of unknown and unnamed Lansing citizens who rallied around -- and for -- Tony Benavides during the final weeks of the campaign.
"We are ernestly grateful, and humbled by, the efforts and support demonstrated throughout this campaign," the Benavides family said. "We are appreciative of the financial support this campaign received, and we are thankful for the advice, dedication, and friendship we have witnessed in the past eight months."
Particularly impressive, campaign officials added, was the turnout and grassroots support shown during the campaign's final few weeks.
Without the support of the community, the Lansing citizens, and many donors, the Mayor's bid for re-election to Lansing's highest political seat would not have been attempted.
"We saw hope, faith, honor, and opportunity in the city we call home," the Mayor added. "Despite the results of the election, we remain optimistic that this 'community of many communities' will continue to flourish and prosper -- as it has done these past few years -- regardless of whom is at the helm. It is this same hope and optimism that keeps me personally saying, 'YES, WE CAN.'"
